Speedrun: Why are you here? Go to Deep Jungle!
Proud: This area can actually be fairly tough on Proud. Enemies in the Coliseum do not drop HP or MP orbs, so if you don't have the Cure spell you are completely reliant on Potions and other consumables. I highly suggest going to Deep Jungle before continuing here. Not only will you have Cure, but the higher level will be helpful for fighting the boss here.

TRAINING
Olympus Coliseum is an extremely small world. Sora starts at the Coliseum Gates, where there is one chest to be found. Look behind the pillars to the left to find a Mega-Potion. Enter the Lobby to find Philoctetes. Try pushing the nearby stone block until Sora says "It weighs a ton!" and then return to Phil.
Sora gets sent into a solo training mission, where he has 30 seconds to destroy 20 barrels. If you do a complete combo roughly in the middle of each set, the finisher will destroy all the barrels.
The second trial has 25 barrels scattered out a bit, but a far more generous 1 minute time frame. Combo finishers will continue to help. If you target a single barrel in just the right spot, the finisher will send it flying, hitting the barrels behind it. You can also Lift a barrel and Throw it towards a stack in order to break them all at once.
Barrels are located on the base level, hidden from regular view. There is also one barrel off on a floating platform. Lock onto it with and cast Fire three times to destroy it, or Throw the nearby barrel. You must pass the training levels to continue on with the story here.
After training, Phil will give Sora Thunder. You can redo the training as many times as you want to better your time, but there is no further reward.
Leave the Lobby to run into Hades and get the Entry Pass. Olympus Coliseum will now show up in Chronicles. Return to Phil with the Entry Pass to enter the Preliminaries.
PRELIMINARIES
Proud: Since enemies in the Coliseum don't drop anything helpful like HP orbs, I found even the preliminaries to be fairly difficult. I highly recommend proceeding with the main story until you unlock the Cure spell at Deep Jungle.
The Preliminaries are here to show you some cutscenes, but also to explain how the later tournaments work. There are 9 battles, each of carefully crafted sets of Heartless you won't find anywhere else. They are designed to test your skills more than anything.
A seed-by-seed guide is unnecessary here, as there isn't much more to say than "defeat all the Heartless." Instead, I will give advice for boss battles (2nd Seed) and the occasional noteworthy Seed.
Match # | Enemies | Amount |
1 | Soldier | x4 |
Blue Rhapsody | x3 | |
2 | Shadow | x10 |
Blue Rhapsody | x3 | |
3 | Red Nocturne | x5 |
Blue Rhapsody | x5 | |
4 | Shadow | x2 |
Soldier | x2 | |
Red Nocturne | x3 | |
Blue Rhapsody | x3 | |
5 | Blue Rhapsody | x9 |
6 | Large Body | x1 |
Red Nocturne | x4 | |
Blue Rhapsody | x4 | |
7 | Cloud | x1 |
These matches will be the first time you face Blue Rhapsody Heartless. They work just like the Red Nocturnes, and you can hit them with a Fire to get some extra experience. There are a handful of cutscenes here with some new characters. Cloud, Hercules, and Hades will all be added to the Journal.
The first several fights are just combinations of Heartless. The most difficult part of these fights is the inability to heal. Enemies don't drop any HP or MP orbs, and you don't have access to Cure yet, unless you've gone to Deep Jungle first. This means you are relying on Potions and other healing Items to stay alive, and Sora can only hold so many.
The final enemy is Cloud, and he's a doozy.
Boss: Cloud
Unlike the many Heartless you've faced so far, Cloud actively blocks Sora's attacks. He also dashes around the battlefield, and will occasionally jump high into the air and do a massive ground pound. I found aerial attacks at his head to be most effective.
After defeating Cloud, there is a cutscene where you are introduced to the main boss of this sequence, Cerberus.
Boss: Cerberus
Drops: Inferno Band
The obvious danger here is the three heads that make bite attacks, but that's not the only trick up this doggies...collar? He will rear up on his hind legs, causing a shockwave as he lands. Make sure you are in the air when this happens to avoid damage. Each head will shoot out fireballs, which can be avoided by dodge rolling, or simply running around. The weirdest attack is the pillars of dark energy that Cerberus can summon from the ground. They always appear near where Sora is, so while running around or dodge rolling is still effective, you may just get unlucky and take a hit.
After the fight, Sora and co. become Junior Heroes, and gain the Hero License. The Olympus Coliseum entry in Chronicles will also update.
There is nothing more to do here in Olympus Coliseum, so leave via the Coliseum Gates to return to your gummi ship. There will be a nice scene with Cloud, where he gives Sora the Sonic Blade ability.
Your next destination is Deep Jungle.
If you haven't already, return to Traverse Town and purchase the new weapons for Donald and Goofy. You can also use this opportunity to complete Traverse Town's Mission 2, which nets you an Achievement. Please see the KH1: Gummi page for more information.
As you progress through the game, actual tournaments will be unlocked. Below I have listed each tournament, some helpful tips, and the Achievements tied to each one.
Undefeated: The Undefeated Achievement requires you to play through the entire game without dying and using a Continue. Thankfully, losing in the Coliseum doesn't actually bring you to the Continue/Load Game screen, so it does not interfere with this Achievement.
Completing any tournament the first time unlocks a solo challenge, where you redo the entire tournament just as Sora. The first time you complete one of these, you unlock an Achievement.
Once a solo challenge has been completed, a time trial version becomes available. For the Phil, Pegasus, and Hercules Cups, these time trials give you 3 minutes. The Hades Cup allows for 20 minutes, due to the significantly longer length. Successfully completing any time trial unlocks an Achievement.
Phil Cup
The Phil Cup becomes available after sealing the Keyhole in Traverse Town. Below are some tips for noteworthy Seeds.
7th Seed - Big Feet | Having (probably) just fought Opposite Armor, taking on just the legs should be fairly easy. Remember that you have to defeat both individually. |
4th Seed - Hard Hitters | Gauntlets time! It might be best to take out the Blue Rhapsodies first, so their Blizzards don't interrupt Sora's attacks. As with the legs, defeat them both individually. |
1st Seed - Shadow Battalion | And finally, the torso shows up. I have never seen it do the cannon shot, which was the most dangerous move Opposite Armor had. Again, I recommend taking out the mages first. |
Defeating the Hammerlegs, Gauntlets, and Armored Torso adds Red Armor to the Journal. Completing the Phil Cup awards Sora with Gravity, and an Achievement.

Pegasus Cup
The Pegasus Cup becomes available after escaping from Monstro. When you arrive here, use Blizzara to extinguish all the braziers. A chest will appear off to one side, and it holds a Holy-G.
Below are some tips for noteworthy Seeds.
4th Seed - Toadstool | This is probably the first time you will run into a Black Fungus. They will release a small poison cloud that stops attacks and deals a small amount of damage over time. After a few hits, they will activate a stone-like form where they can't be damaged, but can continue to attack. Just stay away from them until they revert back to normal, then continue attacking. |
2nd Seed - Giant Impact | Depending on your luck, this can be pretty simple or incredibly frustrating. Since these enemies can only be attacked from behind, and they are so large, I often found Sora's attacks would bounce off of a nearby enemy I wasn't trying to attack. Add in various ranged attacks and charges, and it can be fairly hectic. It never really gets hard, just annoying. |
1st Seed - Leon & Yuffie | See below |
Boss: Leon & Yuffie
You've fought Leon once before, but now he has some extra tricks. He is a bit more mobile, and gives a much harder hit. When he gets below half health, Leon summons a spectral sword over top of his gunblade, increasing his damage and reach considerably.
Yuffie is by far the more dangerous foe, however, as she can heal. Getting Leon down to only a few HP and then suddenly seeing it jump back up is incredibly annoying. Yuffie will also run away and throw shuriken, but you can deflect them back for the experience.
Completing the Pegasus Cup grants Sora the Strike Raid ability, and unlocks an Achievement. You are probably strong enough to complete the Phil Cup Solo Challenge at this point.
Artisan Hero
Win the Pegasus Cup.

Completing the Solo Challenge for the Pegasus Cup gives you an Orichalcum.
Completing the Time Trial for the Pegasus Cup gives you a Dark Matter.
Hercules Cup
The Hercules Cup becomes available after sealing the Keyhole in Neverland. Below are some tips for notable Seeds.
4th Seed - Cloud | This will be the second time you've fought Cloud, and the strategy pretty much remains the same. Most of his stuff is just faster, now. At half health, he uses a new flight-based ability that also turns him invincible. He will glow gold, then fly around the arena with his one wing and make swipes at whoever he can reach. |
1st Seed - Hercules | I'm not going to bother with a boss tag here because this really isn't that hard. Herc occasionally gets a gold glow around him, which means he is invulnerable. Pick up a barrel and Throw it at him to get rid of the glow, then attack him. Dodge his punches, and the spinning lariat. Watch for the larger golden glow that surrounds him as a dome, and get out of the way. It's a big area effect. |
Defeating Cloud here awards Sora the Metal Chocobo Keyblade.
Defeating Hercules the Hero unlocks an Achievement, Herc's Shield for Goofy, Sora gets the Olympia Keyblade, and everyone can now work together to use the Yellow Trinity marks. You are probably strong enough to take on the Phil Cup Time Trial, and the Pegasus Cup Solo Challenge at this point.
Hero of the Coliseum
Win the Hercules Cup.

Hades Cup
Hades Cup is the final traditional tournament in the Coliseum. It is unlocked after sealing the Keyhole in Hollow Bastion.
This tournament has 50 seeds instead of 10, and features a boss fight at the end of every set (41, 31, 21, 11, and 2). Covering each and every battle is beyond the scope of this guide; at this point, you should know how to fight regular enemies. Below are some seeds that I found noteworthy, and some quick tips.
Also, when you hit the 20th Seed, the arena gets a bit smaller. Be aware of dodging and the like.
45th Seed - Yuffie | Alone, Yuffie isn't much of a threat. Be offensive to interrupt her healing. You can deflect her projectiles for experience. |
41st Seed - Behemoth | The only weak point on a Behemoth is the horn on its head. Run behind it and jump up onto a leg, then up onto the back, to get access to the horn. Behemoths will occasionally call down lightning; this is basically unavoidable, so keep your health up. Gravity and Aero are great spells here. |
38th Seed - Sorcerous Armor | Fighting an entire Guard Armor in the Coliseum is a bit rough. Focus on Guard Armor and let your allies deal with the flying mages. |
35th Seed - Optical Trick | The Sneak Army Heartless works almost identically to the boss from Deep Jungle. Watch out for the extra eye lasers attacks. |
31st Seed - Cerberus | This pooch doesn't behave any differently from before, but now he's at full strength. Attack the heads, avoid the fireballs and dark pillars. |
27th Seed - Shadow Storm | This fight is only worth mentioning because the format repeats later. The Shadows spawn in four groups, with the following number of enemies: 1, 3, 5, 15. Set up a Thunder spell right before the last wave to hit them all. |
21st Seed - Cloud & Leon | I prefer to take out Cloud first, as he has the longer invincibility animation. You know the one, where he flies around slicing at you? Leon's big sword thing has a large hitbox, but you can deal a lot of damage while he's summoning it. Plus Cloud has less health. |
11th Seed - Hades | See the Boss tag below |
2nd Seed - Rock Titan | See the Boss tag below |
Additional Notes
- Defeating Yuffie in the 45th Seed unlocks the Genji Shield for Goofy
- The 41st Seed features the Destroyed Behemoth. Clearing this fight upgrades Blizzara to Blizzaga
- It is incorrectly labeled in-game, you fight the Sneak Army for the first time during the 35th Seed
- Unless you've already been to the End of the World, this is where you will encounter the Angel Star Heartless for the first time. The work like most of the flying mages you've already fought, except they can use their wings to guard for a short time
- Defeating Cerberus at the 31st Seed upgrades Thundara to Thundaga
- Defeating Cloud & Leon at the 21st Seed unlocks the Lionheart Keyblade for Sora
- Sora's Gravira spell is upgraded to Graviga after defeating Hades in the 11th Seed, and receive Ansem's Report 8
Boss: Hades
This is probably going to be the most difficult match since the Behemoth. In Blue mode, Hades will shoot fire at you from his hands, but this is avoidable by doing hit and run tactics. When he floats over to the center of the arena, he is about to turn Red. He will shoot walls of fire out from him and start spinning around in a circle. Either stick real close to him and run with his turns, or stay far away and Dodge Roll.
He cycles between these two modes throughout the fight. Keep Aero/ra/ga up for the whole thing, as Sora is going to be right up in Hades' grill for most of the fight.
Boss: Rock Titan
The Rock Titan enters the Journal with this battle.
Don't be overwhelmed by it's immense size; the Rock Titan is actually extremely easy. Wail on one of it's feet, and eventually it will fall over. Run up it's body and target either of the two heads, then continue to go nuts. Even once it stands up, Sora should remain on top near the heads, allowing for combos. If Sora does fall down, go for the feet again.
Completing the Hades Cup grants you an Achievement, Olympus Coliseum updates in Chronicles, and Sora will learn the Trinity Limit ability.
Coliseum Champion
Win the Hades Cup.

Completing the Hades Cup Solo Challenge unlocks Donald's Save the Queen.
Completing the Hades Cup Time Trial unlocks Goofy's Save the King.
After completing the Hades Cup, return to the Coliseum Gates area. Behind the pillars next to the entrance to the Lobby is a purple vase. Examine it to find an Orichalcum. Use Blizzaga on all the braziers to make a chest appear. It holds a Shiva Belt.
You are probably strong enough to complete the Pegasus Cup Time Trial, and the Hercules Cup Solo Challenge at this point.
GOLD MATCH
The Gold Match is a single fight against the Ice Titan. I recommend having beaten the main story and being at least level 60 before attempting this. You also want to make sure to equip the Guard Ability. It is impossible to win otherwise.
Boss: Ice Titan
The Ice Titan is big, mean, and mad. The vast majority of its moves are easy to see coming but cover a lot of space, so be prepared to run around the arena a lot. Stay on the bleachers as much as possible to avoid the shockwave attack entirely.
The only weak spot is the Ice Titan's head, which is unreachable. You are waiting for it to shoot out a barrage of icicle spears that home in on Sora. If you Guard with correct timing, Sora will deflect the icicles backwards and damage the Titan. After taking enough damage, the Ice Titan will drop to its knees for a moment, allowing full air combos on the head. This is very much a battle of attrition, so be patient.
Successfully defeating the Ice Titan grants Sora the Diamond Dust Keyblade and unlocks an Achievement. You are probably strong enough to complete the Hercules Cup Time Trial and the Hades Cup Solo Challenge at this point.
The Frosty Giant
Defeat the Ice Titan in the Gold Match at Olympus Coliseum.

PLATINUM MATCH
The Platinum Match is available after the end of the game, and is one of the hardest fights in Kingdom Hearts. It should be one of the final things you do in the game, and is considered one of the toughest fights in the series.
I recommend being at least level 80 before attempting this. Having the Ultima Keyblade is useful, but not necessary. I was able to successfully complete this match wielding the Divine Rose. Please see KH1: Synthesis for more information on how to obtain the Ultima Keyblade if you need the extra power.
Begin the Platinum Match to fight Sephiroth.
Boss: Sephiroth
Entering this match with accessories that give Fire and Dark resistance is extremely helpful. You should have several of these from natural gameplay, and there are a few good accessories from synthesis that will help as well.
Sephiroth wields the Masamune, an incredibly long sword that gives him amazing reach. His basic attack is a horizontal slash that you can avoid in the air, but he will also teleport around and attack when you can't see him.
Right from the start he will summon three pillars of fire in a triangle around him. If you are in the right spot, Sora can Sliding Dash between the pillars to continue attacking, or if you are lucky and behind him when he summons the pillars, there won't be one in your way.
The main attack to watch out for is a purple halo that completely drains MP and brings HP down to 1. Sephiroth attacks immediately afterwards, so you have very little time to use an Elixir to get your health and magic back.
Your key to success (pun intended!) is the Strike Raid ability. With enough Ethers and Elixirs, you can spam this move the entire fight. It gives Sora a bunch of invincibility frames while being used, and as long as you can stay locked on to Sephiroth, the attacks will home in on him. It also interrupts the draining move that Sephiroth uses, which is the only way to avoid it.
Defeating Sephiroth grants Sora the One-Winged Angel Keyblade and unlocks an Achievement. You are probably strong enough to complete the Hades Cup Time Trial at this point.
One-Winged Angel
Defeat Sephiroth in the Platinum Match at Olympus Coliseum.

COLLECTIBLES
There are only four non-story Trinity Marks in Olympus Coliseum.
From landing at the Coliseum Gates, turn Sora to the left. In front of the score banners is a Green Trinity that reveals a chest with a Mythril.
In the center of the gates area is a White Trinity that holds Donald's Violetta.
Under the feet of the statue to the left of the Lobby doors is a Blue Trinity that drops a chest with a Mythril Shard. Do the same with another Blue Trinity to the right of the doors for puppies no. 22/23/24.
That's it! If you haven't already, attempt the various Solo and Time challenges for the different cups. Each variation has it's own reward, from weapons to abilities.
